Active Ingredients

Every product on this site is built from a short list of ingredients, and we name them on the label in the quantities used rather than hiding them behind "herbal blend". This page is where those ingredients are explained — what each one does, where we source it, and which products it appears in.

Ayurvedic formulation is not additive. A pack with ten herbs is not more effective than one with two; it is just harder to tell what helped and what caused the reaction. Most of our hair packs are single-ingredient for exactly that reason, and our hydrosols are distilled from one plant rather than blended. If something goes wrong on your skin, you should be able to work out why.

Sourcing matters as much as the ingredient itself. Saffron from Kashmir behaves differently from saffron sold loose in a market; manjistha harvested at the right age carries a different pigment load. Where the origin changes the result, we have said so below.
